Leslieville is known around the world as being "Hollywood North" due to its many industrial buildings and warehouses that have been converted to film studios and production houses. Named after George Leslie & sons, owner of Toronto Nurseries, Leslieville's first residents comprised market gardeners and brick-making employees. One of Leslieville's first buildings was Leslieville Public School, and its first principal was Alexander Muir, composer of The Maple Leaf Forever--Canada's first national anthem. To this day, Leslieville has retained its small village charm with its cozy houses, mom-and-pop stores, and tree-lined streets.
Originally built in the late 19th Century, Leslieville is known for its Ontario Cottages, Second Empire row houses, and majestic Victorian Houses but has more recently seen many former industrial buildings turned into charming condo-lofts.
